Social acceptability and sustainable development

RMBMU, a model region for sustainable development

In 2007, UNESCO announced the designation of the Manicouagan-Uapishka Biosphere Region (RBMU). This prestigious status, recognized worldwide, gave the region an international reputation and was supported by coordinated efforts to mobilize stakeholders from all sectors (economic, indigenous, municipal, political, educational, tourism, and environmental) around a common vision: to make the Manicouagan region a benchmark for sustainable development.

Role of Baie-Comeau, central city

As a key player in regional development, the City of Baie-Comeau is well situated to contribute actively to the implementation and promotion of this vision. As part of this commitment, the city has undertaken to prepare a sustainable development plan within its organizational culture and to implement it through tangible projects in the community. The municipality has also adopted a strategic framework for sustainable development for the Jean-Noël-Tessier industrial park.

Social acceptability

By following a sustainable development guide specifically designed for new development projects in the IP zone, developers can be assured that their operations will be socially and environmentally acceptable.

Compliance with the framework’s suggestions ensures political stability and the support of the region’s environmental, economic, and civic groups.
