Intermodal Logistics Infrastructures

The Baie-Comeau IP zone is at the centre of a network of logistic hubs linking North America, the great Canadian north, and the world’s major markets. The infrastructures in place allow for the moving and storing of goods efficiently via the rail networks, the port facilities, and the road network. 

Rail Infrastructures

The SOPOR rail facilities provide for the safe and efficient storage and movement of goods. The ferry-rail service transports a variety of goods as far as Matane, thus providing access to the North American rail network.

Maritime rail transshipment is possible, providing an additional alternative to the logistics network. The Baie-Comeau IP zone therefore offers added flexibility for importing and exporting goods. With its warehousing facility, SOPOR handles nearly 450,000 tonnes of merchandise annually.

Port Infrastructures

The Baie-Comeau port is ice-free year-round and has 5 terminals. With the capacity to accommodate panamax vessels, the port exports roughly 6 million tonnes of goods per year.

It is strategically located for the loading and unloading of bulk, oversized, and break bulk goods destined for intercontinental markets (Europe, Asia, and Africa).

Road Network

The IP zone is located at the junction of routes 138 and 389. The City of Baie-Comeau’s Jean-Noël-Tessier industrial park is located at the junction of routes 389 and 138. There is direct access to the north linking to the Labrador Trough, as well as to the Manicouagan backcountry, which is rich in mineral resources:

• Rare earths

The forestry industry can also rely on the C-901 and Toulnustouc forestry roads. A number of trucking companies operate between the Côte-Nord region, the major city centres of Quebec, and the rest of North America. 

The Intercar network provides a daily bus service between Baie-Comeau and Quebec City.

Air Transport

The Baie-Comeau airport is 10 minutes from Baie-Comeau and located in Pointe-Lebel. It can accommodate and serve both small and commercial aircraft.  

Air Liaison and Pascan provide daily air access to the region for passenger transport as well as links to regional and international airports in Quebec.
